Body Time
A walk in the wet sand delivers an invigorating foot massage! Around this time
of year, it seems like a body would greatly appreciate one.
Unfortunately, living
in the desert in the middle of the winter does not lend itself well to such a
request. Create your own sandy path to soft feet with the following recipe.
1 Tablespoon sea salt
1 Tablespoon calendula oil
5 drops orange or spearmint essential oil.
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients until they cover the salt. Soak your
feet to soften the callused skin. Massage the mixture into each foot for at least
3 minutes. Rinse with warm water, pat dry and put on nice, warm, wooly socks.
The calunda oil residue will continue to soften your feet for hours.

Did You Know?
An emu is one of the world’s largest, flightless birds,
second in size only to the ostrich. It is best known for
being Australia’s coat of arms, opposite the kangaroo.
An ancient species, it is believed to be 80 million years
old. Over the last few thousand years, the emu has been a
staple for Australian aborigines. The first Europeans to
explore Australia observed its use as a source of protein
rich meat, leather hides and medicinal oil.
The oil has been used as a remedy for burns, insect bites,
and acne. It is also used as a sunscreen and moisturizer.
But its healing potential goes far beyond the skin’s
surface. More than 25 fatty acids have been found in samples
of emu oil. Combinations of these, along with a number of
yet-to-be evaluated co-factors are undoubtedly necessary
for emu oil to work the way it does.
