Massage Foundation
Massage course focuses on mastering and applying the five movement categories of Swedish massage: effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement and vibration. These five strokes are used to improve blood and lymph circulation, increase muscle flexibility and tone, and improve the structure and function of the muscular and skeletal systems. In addition, students learn appropriate applications, contraindications, and the therapeutic value of each movement type. Preparation for participation in the Student Clinic is supported with exercises designed to bring awareness, fluidity and finesse to the student's work. Later in the semester the student develops further mastery and integration of various bodywork skills. This course explores the idea of ãgoing deepä with a client, both physically through deep tissue manipulation and energetically through an understanding of energy flow. Massage presents an introduction to deep tissue bodywork, effective use of compression and friction, and an introduction to a variety of massage modalities.

This course is offered in the Massage and Continuing Education programs.
