Student Clinic

The student bodywork clinic is an integral part of the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts education. Designed as a practicum, the clinic provides a supervised environment to develop and deepen skills learned in the Foundational Massage and Somatic Polarity diploma programs. Students also develop listening skills and professionalism, experience how to run a bodywork business, and provide service to the Santa Fe community. The Academy offers both Internship and Externship sessions through the practicum program.

Graduate Clinic

The Graduate Clinic offers a wide range of bodywork, from Therapeutic Massage, Somatic Polarity therapy, and deep tissue massage, to cutting-edge modalities such as Ortho-Bionomy® treatments, Craniosacral Therapy and Reflexology. All graduates at the clinic are licensed, professional bodyworkers.

What To Expect
Massage and Somatic Polarity encourages relaxation, relieves pain, and balances energies of the mind, body and spirit.

New clients are asked to arrive 10-15 minutes before their appointment to complete paperwork, describing in detail any current health issues. This information is critical for the student to perform a safe and beneficial Massage or Polarity session. Information shared with the Academy will remain confidential.

After completing the paperwork, the client will meet with the student therapist to discuss your health history and the bodywork session.

All sessions take place in classrooms which are individually portioned off by curtains to provide visual privacy. As other sessions will be happening at the same time, we maintain a silent clinic. If you need to speak, please do so at a whisper.

Our clinic uses sheet and towel draping for massage sessions. The therapist will uncover the part of your body that is getting massaged while the rest of your body remains covered. Please undress to your level of comfort for the massage. Somatic Polarity sessions are given with clothing on.

To help the student improve his or her skills, we ask you to share constructive feedback, both verbally and on a feedback form, at the end of the session.

Fragrance-free policy

Due to health concerns arising from exposure to scented products, the Academy is committed to providing a fragrance-free environment to all employees, students, and clients. Fragrances are defined as any product that produces a scent strong enough to be perceptible by others, including but not limited to cologne, after shave lotion, perfume, perfumed hand lotion, scented hair products, scented oils and/or similar products.

Special Considerations

For some medical conditions, we will require written permission from a physician.

If you are pregnant, please let us know in advance. We provide massages to women in their second and third trimester after the students have received specialized training in pregnancy massage.

Payment

We accept cash, checks, MasterCard, Visa.

Tips

Clients are not required or expected to tip. All donations, however, are applied to the Academy’s scholarship fund.

Cancellations

Please call the school at least 24 hours in advance to cancel an appointment. Clients are required to pay for appointments canceled less than 24 hours in advance. Because the students must practice a certain number of hours of student clinic in order to graduate, your participation becomes an important part of their education. You may also give your appointment to a friend or family member if you are unable to come.
